Olympus has fallen…
Olympus has fallen…
One of the world’s biggest camera makers Olympus has bowed out of the camera business after running it for the past 84 years.
An article on bbc.com discusses how the market demand for a stand-alone camera has shrunk by an estimated 84% between 2010 and 2018. The smartphone took over and there are just not enough customers to support separate cameras at a level that could sustain their business.
Interestingly, in 2000, 10 years before the marked loss of market share captioned above, Olympus developed a 2 megapixel camera that could connect to a mobile phone to send images.
They were onto something….possibly one idea hop away from connecting the dots (so to speak…) Connecting the dots between the camera in one hand and the phone in the other.
There is a way to stay in the game…stay on the cutting edge that we need to master. The game is flowing and there is a wisdom required to ride the wave and stay with it and in it.
Olympus was a leader. So this is not a laggard that was left behind. It’s true what they say. Getting ahead is one thing – staying ahead is another. There is something you are doing now that has gotten you ahead. The question is how do you stay ahead?
One of the concepts coming to mind now as I write is the Kingdom principle of force. It looks like you must not allow a day’s success to abet your appetite for greater and better.
Continue to apply the force that got you here and more. To apply force is to press on in discipline, focus and endeavour to improve and connect the dots for the next thing.
Once you are a leader, you never need to fall behind again…
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day. Proverbs 4:18
Since the time John the Baptist came until now, the kingdom of heaven has been going forward in strength, and people have been trying to take it by force. Matthew 11:12 (NCV)
